Chelsea vs Arsenal - Betting Preview.
Football Betting Match Odds: Chelsea 2.10 Draw 3.00 Arsenal 3.30
So much has happened since Arsenal enjoyed their 1-0 victory over Chelsea back in December. It’s fair to say for both teams, this season has been emotional and it’s well worth considering these events before placing your bets as this game could well come down to which team has the stronger psychology.
Cesc Fabregas has reopened Arsenal’s row regarding the suspension of Martin Taylor. When speaking of the Birmingham defender, the Arsenal midfielder said, “Of course I blame him, he did it and he knows why he did it. A very good player is injured for a year and the player who committed the tackle is suspended for 3 little games. It is very, very unfair.”
This latest outburst clearly highlights the root behind Arsenal’s dismal current form. Four draws in their last four league games, two of which needed late efforts to rescue even a point, has seen the Gunners relinquish top spot completely of their own doing. The injury sustained by Eduardo was horrific and seems to have shaped the season for the young Arsenal squad.
Chelsea too have their own psychological dramas to face, none less than the instant criticism and speculation surrounding their manager after every, occasional slip up.
The Blues two cup defeats, first to Tottenham in the Carling Cup final and then to Barnsley in the FA Cup 6th round, provoked severe criticism most notably for Avram Grant, his team selection and motivational capability. However, unlike their opponents here, these events appear to have only made them stronger.
An impressive 6-1 drubbing against Derby, followed up with a 1-0 away win at the Stadium of Light now sees Chelsea well back in contention in the title race just three points behind both Man United and Arsenal (and with a game in hand on the Gunners).
You have to go back four seasons to have had a successful bet on Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. Only Toure and Clichy remain in the Arsenal ranks from that day. Add to this, the fact that Chelsea have not lost at home all season, it seems a wager on the visitors this time round will be unlikely to pay out again.
However, you can’t ignore the performance the Gunners put in against AC Milan just a week and a half after the Eduardo incident. Determined and resolute, they finally looked to have put the whole dreadful event to bed. If they can muster a performance reminiscent of this one, then a bet on the away team stands a chance. But Fabregas’ latest outburst demonstrates how the team is still deeply affected by their day at Birmingham and while they continue to do this, their league form will continue to suffer.
